Are you getting those awful “second notice to renew your car warranty” fraud calls?

6:55 pm General Interest

[digg-reddit-me]Update: These bastards called me at 4:30am to tell me how sorry they were that they were making inappropriate phone calls.  When I asked for the company owner’s contact number, they said it had just been changed, and they didn’t know the new one (yeah right).  When, after talking for 20 minutes, I asked Lorraine for the company’s mailing address, which they are required by law to provide, she told me she’d take my numbers off of their list, hung up the phone and stopped answering.

She didn’t even get the numbers she was going to remove from the list, of course.

I get three or four calls from this company a day, to a private cellular phone which is on the state and national do not call lists.  Because this is starting to be well known, I am distributing information about the companies involved, so that the other people wrestling with these fraudulent calls can begin to fight back.

It doesn’t take that many people calling the phone company and police to get this handled, but it does take more than one.

It’s Dealer Warranty Services. You can speak with Shane Richards or “Lance the Manager” who refuses to identify himself. The company owners are Jeff Zykan and Mark Schwab. They will tell you they will call you back; they never do. Eventually they blame this on “Craig” at Voice Solutions, which is an unmanned phone switch that never has human responses and does not return calls from voicemail; 1-727-532-7100. If you manage to talk to craig, he will give you a fake number to call back (the one he gave me was for Walla Walla University.)

Be careful – these people turn off the phones to avoid calls. Amazing scumbags.

They know how far in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act they are. Your appropriate first step is to check if you are in a one party consent state (they are), which allows you to tape record your calls without warning the other end. Then, call them, and ask them for the contact information they’re required by law to provide.

When they refuse, contact your phone company and tell them you want to file an abusive caller claim. The phone company should begin a report then instruct you to call your local police.

Call your NON-EMERGENCY local police number (do not use 911). Ask to file a police report. It’s free and takes about five minutes. Then call your phone company back and finish the abusive caller complaint.

When enough of these get filed, the phone company can disconnect the source of the calls.

The best way to deal with illegal calls is to use the law to end their ability to do business.

The phone number to Dealer Warranty Services is 1-800-581-1575.

These guys are just brokers of the warranties. You need to attack the source, that is, the companys who supply them with the warranties. Check out Interstate National Dealer Services and warranty Direct. They are the ones behind it.

  2. John Haugeland Says:

Whereas that’s interesting, my primary goal is ending the five calls a day. I will, however, follow your advice.

  3. John Haugeland Says:

What a surprise – this number is now permanently busy.

I was contacted by an Aaron R Cohen, who claims to be a florida attorney, to tell me that my information was vended by iData (there are several dozen companies operating under this name in the US), and that not only was no further information available even to distinguish which iData was involved, but that he would not provide any identification of himself as an attorney.

Given that he had no idea what “one party consent state” meant, and that tape recording conversations between Idaho and Missouri is illegal, I don’t actually believe he was an attorney, and of course, pretending to be an an attorney is illegal.

I asked him for his bar ID. He told me to check the florida bar. There are two Aaron R Cohens in Florida (one uses Robert rather than the initial R), and one of them is the scumbag from the Crackhead Jesus Trials.

I have contacted both Aaron Cohens. I expect to hear back from whichever is the innocent one (and hopefully he will have a different voice). I will publish the bar ID of the other promptly.

  4. John Haugeland Says:

This is the lawyer who called me, threatened me, and refused to identify himself (I have now identified him through the phone company).

Funny thing is, yesterday, the owner of the company Craig called me, all apologies, saying that anyone who terminated a call then refused contact would immediately be terminated.

Now, since his lawyer seems to think the recordings I made of them breaking the law are illegal, he’s gone back to hiding in submarine mode.

What he’s about to find out is that my cellular phone’s area code doesn’t match where I live (I have a California area code, but I actually live in Idaho, and since it’s a cell, my phone company has records of where I was taking the calls.)

He’s also about to find out that since he’s been cloaking his phone numbers, under 18 USC 2511 d he loses the protection of his home state.

He’s treated by the laws that he was pretending to call from, and the recordings I have are from other states.

Unsurprisingly, after scaring the hell out of him yesterday, calls have stopped. If you would like to stop calls from this company, simply contact Craig directly, before he disconnects this new number of his, at 1-727-532-7101.

  5. Wanda Says:

I recieved these phone calls several months ago. I told them to remove my name from their list and have not recieved any phone calls since. Today my son recieved a phone call on his cell phone about extending the warranty on his car. I find this exceptionally funny seeing as how he doesn’t have a car registered in his name. The 800 phone number they used was not in service when he tried to call the number back. I’m hoping he will once again recieve a phone call from them as we live in Georgia, a one party state. Wish us luck in stopping these frauds becuase all they are trying to do is steal money from anyone who wants to extend their vehicle warranty.

  6. FJ Says:

By the way – these guys are total scammers.

@ B.Freeman (Dec. 4th 2008) – They are not legit in any way shape or form, and really have nothing to do with car warranties!

They have been calling me and about 7 others that I know that *DON’T OWN A CAR*.

From other articles on the internet, they basically use robot/cloaking dialers and geo-target cell phone numbers. I’ve read of people in New Mexico, New York, California and countless other states where they have received these types of annoying calls.

  7. Greg Hunts Says:

The auto dialers are going off of a set number list IE (Pre-programmed)
ex 123-4567, 123-4568, -4569. Here’s how I know that. I get calls from my office once every two weeks first on my 3 managers line’s, Manager’s A phone goes off, then B then C… I’ve had a chance to get onto line with them but it was a friggin ridiculous long call… BTW, they have no managers that are willing to talk with you.. And for some reason it seems like you talk with the same 3 people all the time… Can we say ‘SCAM?’ In any case, feel free to file a police report, but with all of the murders and whatnots going on, this is definitely low-priority. However, on the plus side, it does cost them money to dial out and air time…

  8. John Haugeland Says:

Mr. Hunts: That’s interesting. It’s very illegal for them to do that. Should something assemble against that, that’s valuable information.

  9. Jacob Says:

I keep getting these calls, and I have never owned a vehicle.

It is very annoying because one of the phone numbers they have been abusing is my prepaid cell phone – so they are literally robbing me just by calling me, even though I don’t fall for the warranty scam. I would like to see drastic action taken against whoever’s doing this.

  10. Tom Says:

He got “Lance the Manager”, but he claims to be with a mail warranty company only.

He says we can search “US Fidelis”, something called “Nos”? He’s pretty sure it’s US Fidelis, but he’s definitely Lance the Manager.

He is aware about this post, talks about “Call Blasting”, transfer calls, etc, I’m listening to this call the whole time. He wants an “owner ID” or “tracking number”. He says his company does not cold call.

  11. John Haugeland Says:

He’s lying. The name they have for me is the fake name I planted in the phone book.

  13. anonymous Says:

Ok you guys want to know the deal with these companies calling out of Florida. First off the company Explicit Media is the same as Voice Solutions. There are three main owners. Craig Rubino, Joseph Johnson, and Joseph Rubino. They are around their mid 20′s except for Craig which is in his 30′s. They run multiple buisnesses out of a couple different sites but their main office is on the border of Largo and clearwater, Florida. Thier address is 4525 140th Ave North. Suite 901, Clearwater ,Florida, 33762 as far as their numbers they change their phone numbers on a weekly basis as to not to beable to get contacted by people like you but I will do research into this and try to get their most current numbers.

  14. anonymous Says:

The only way to stop these calls from coming in is to file a class action law suite against them. They wont stop until you do. The may be losing a little money by spending time with you on the phone but they are makeing money in the mean time.

  15. Jim Says:

Craig Rubino has changed the name of the company to Reach Out Tech. They’re no longer Voice Solutions. These guys ignore laws when it suits them. These guys are representing much of the Auto Warranty world. They have about 20 client’s that rotate daily. When you ask to be put on their Do Not Call List, it’s only for the company they represent today. They’ll call you again tomorrow representing someone else. They really don’t have clue about succeeding in outbound calling. A friend let me listen to 3 instances of bait and switch tactics they’ve used. The FTC is too slow and Reachouttech is not about to do the “right” thing.

  16. Amanda Says:

So they have been calling our business trying to get our QuickBooks information faxed to them

  17. John Haugeland Says:

Have you considered reporting them to the police? That’s indicative of a very serious kind of fraud; it may be a different group posing as the first group, trying to hide behind them in case of getting caught.

If you’re in a one-party consent state, you can tape them without telling them (has to be both ends, but they’re in Georgia, so you’re good.) http://www.aapsonline.org/judicial/telephone.htm

  18. Former Employee Says:

I use to work there. I was recently terminated, for a reason I can’t tell you at this time, but it was not for a good reason at all. I don’t like the Company at all except for two people that are supervisors. The people that are on the phone are not given any information about the auto warranty companies or any of the clients they call for. Of course there’s a reason why but wasn’t there long enough to find out. After people found out a little info about the people they were repersenting they were terminated. You guys know them as Voice Solutions, but I was employed by Reachout Technologies. Which is the same address as Voice Solutions and was given coffe cups that had Voice Solutions on them. So they changed there name for a reason. If you have any questions I will answer them the best and I will keep this page on my computer and will refresh it everytime I get on. This company should be closed down but I can’t do anything about it cause I worked for them and they can just say that I’m mad about getting terminated. I am, cause I did work hard, but It’s moarlly wrong what they are doing. We need to work together to get justice what there doing. They terminate people almost every day or everyday, just don’t notice sometimes. LETS BRING THIS COMPANY DOWN, IT’S NOT RIGHT. I think it’s a tree, I think some of there clients are them.

  19. Former Employee Says:

Also they are in Clearwater Florida

  20. John Haugeland Says:

To that former employee who keeps trying to post: give a full address. Your claim that Re… Te… is the same company needs to be verified before I’ll post it. The comments are not deleted, merely withheld, but I can’t post them until I can verify them.

  21. Former Employee Says:

The address is 4525 140th Ave. N #901 Clearwater FL 33762. Is the address to Reachout Teachnologies which if you google Voice Solutions it is the same address.

  22. Stephen Says:

They are at it again!!! This time they are selling leads for Debt Settlement. Joe Johnson and Rick Steel are the names I have and ION XM is the company name on the contract for purchase order. They committed to deliver leads and have produced crap. I have been waiting for a refund for weeks and keep getting the run-around. I was glad to see this posting, and not glad at the same time, as you can imagine. I purchased through Rick Steel and I actually got a call into him where he answered finally! He told me he had to talk to Joe Johnson, and until reading this post I thought that was a fake name. Not sure of the outcome but reading this it doesn’t look good. I wanted to post this so in case anyone decides to google them before doing business, they might come across this posting, instead of too late like me.

  23. anonymous Says:

ok ya really want to know more about this company that everyone is raveing about. They run multiple companies. All are ran by Joseph Johnson, Craig Rubino, and Joseph Rubino. They also employee other family members as Patrick Patacco and Bill (William) Rubino. Thier other brother Chris Rubino Runs the Quick books ordeal. But not onl do they runn these buisnesses they also run websites for a company called Explicit Media. http://www.sexyprofilez.com, http://www.myprofilez.com, http://www.picturez.com. If you want to attack them there is a profile for Joey Johnson on myprofilez and these are what they spend a large chunck of their money on.

  24. anonymous Says:

and then theres a new name their going under now as well as reachout tech. Which is New Line Direct Media, LLC. So go to town on these people as they all probably deserve it. Below is a link also explaining ways to get a hold of them and their connections between businesses but the address is still the same as the one stated above.
