What would make a good image plugin?

I’ve been thinking about making an image plugin for WordPress. I want to restart my image of the day process, but the import process has been dreadful, and there’s no programmatic access to the image list, meaning things like random images and images from subgroups aren’t particularly reasonable. To that end I need to write my own, and since I’d love the rank that comes from having a high-usage plugin, I need a clear idea of what things go into an image plugin, what features are missing from existing plugins, et cetera.

I’m already doing complex efficient randomization, API access, bulk posting, timed bulk posting, base autotagging, auto-categorization, a catalog widget, and I’m going to make sure that my stuff is compatible with the All In One SEO pack. I’m going to provide integration points, and I’m going to provide an example integration with LightBox, or one of its relatives. I’m going to provide voting, moderated tag suggestion and home-post permalinking.

I’ll also be writing strict, browser/version portable code without hacks. Yay!

Please let me know what you’d want to see if there were a new image plugin coming out.

Huhuhuh. Bumped into this thread on Neogaf while browsing around Wired blogs. Amusingly and amazingly, they managed to miss maybe the best training game, which is a shame, because Princess Peach looks like she’s just about ready for it in that picture.

In the great tradition of appeasing the masses, I am attempting to get out of my earlier lateness debacle by mocking America, my homeland.

Of course, it’s trendy to mock America right now, mostly because French jokes are getting a little tired (never fired, dropped once; reverse is for being attacked from the front; etc.) For some reason this means I feel okay about making fun of a country, except that I’m American, so I pretty much feel okay making fun of anything, like this, this, this and this. No shame at all. ’s Awesome, really.

And, make no mistake, I can hear you nipping at my heels, telling me you don’t want to see me posting all this random crap for no apparent reason which has nothing to do with anything, that I need to hurry up and get my shit in gear, because my audience has the attention span of a ten year old and will rapidly lose interest. I’m already struggling because I moved away from my mediawiki blog extension, and now that I’m doing it the right way I’ve got to convince people there’s a reason to stick around. I need to get to posting cutting edge gaming news and deeply meaningful soul searching or my blog is going to become morbidly disinteresting, at which point I would take stock in my work, assess whether I should go on, and maybe admit that it was time.

But I ask of each of you that while I get used to Word Press, you settle down and not really worry about the death of the blog while its life is starting, and give me a chance to hook some regulars with some standard issue political humor and the ever-popular mocking of trends. I’ll have interesting content real soon now.

Whoops! Forgot to fill the queue, and am several hours late. I’m quite busy at the moment because of the company, and so I’m missing little things here and there. This is also why I haven’t generated much blog content in the last couple of days; I’ll try to remedy that tonight. At any rate, as penance for my slackery, I’ll give you several images of the day for today, and more tonight on the normal schedule.
