The Revolution is Dead; Long Live the … Wii?
April 27, 2006 8:51 pm Gaming, General Interest, Miscellaneous, Polls, Video LinksThat’s right, it’s called the Wii now. Apparently Nintendo didn’t learn from Intel’s Viiv bungle; that’s pronounced “we,” not “why.” It’s supposed to be inviting, comfortable, and unifying, and to emphasize that everyone plays. Also it avoids acronymitudinalityhood.

The biggest thing to consider here is that Nintendo seems to be trying to make a new brand (though they’re probably going overboard with their blue ocean strategy…. hah!)
As such, I’m not sure what impact the new name will really have on their target demographic, and to be honest I don’t hate the new name, though it may take a bit of getting used to. Revolution was a great name IMO, but the ‘Wii’ is really going to make me think before I can make up my mind.
